Objectif

La campagne Cirene a eu lieu à bord du Suroît en Janvier et Février 2007. Cette campagne océanographique faisait partie du projet Vasco-Cirene (PIs : J-P Duvel et J. Vialard) dont l'objectif était d'étudier la réponse de l'océan dans la région TRIO aux cyclones, à l'oscillation de Madden-Julian, et à la variabilité interannuelle associée au dipôle de l'océan Indien. Cette campagne a permis de contribuer à des réseaux d'observation pérennes de l'océan Indien, notamment en déployant des profileurs autonomes dans le cadre du programme Argo (Vialard et al., Coriolis Newsletter 2012) et en déployant un mouillage à 8°S, 67°E dans le cadre du programme RAMA (McPhaden et al. 2009).
Cette campagne a également été l'occasion de développement instrumentaux, avec la mise au point du profileur Autonome ASIP, visant a effectuer des mesures de très fine échelle dans l'ensemble de la couche mélangée, jusqu'à quelques millimètres de la surface de l'océan (Ward et al. soumis, Callaghan et al. soumis).
