Objective

The main objectives are to study :

  • Seasonal and interannual variability of the upper ocean heat content and heat balance in the Southern Ocean.
  • The long-term relation between sea level variations and subsurface temperature changes.
  • Different thermal and haline fronts.
  • Variations in transport and structure of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current.
  • Surface salinity variations, and their relation to the freshwater budget of the Southern Ocean.
  • Variations of surface eddy heat, salt and momentum fluxes across the ACC.

This falls under the CLIVAR project.
