Objective Acquiring the data required by the Coastal environment observation service (CNRS/INSU/SOMLIT) and for Ecological monitoring of the Le Blayais site (EDF) for long-term monitoring of the Gironde estuary which began in 1978. It aimed to improve knowledge about the seasonal variability of parameters engendered by sudden events (floods) or slow developments (atmospheric drought, river flow rate) at 4 stations set out along the estuary. This falls under the coastal environment observation service (CNRS/INSU/SOMLIT) project. The Coastal zone observation service (SOMLIT) federating the marine stations at Wimereux, Roscoff, Brest, Arcachon, Banyuls, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Marseilles, aims to better understand the long-term trends in coastal ecosystems subject to anthropogenic or climatic influences. In this context, strict scientific monitoring of long-term trends in the Gironde estuary was implemented. Studying annual and interannual variability (which is one of the main objectives of the observation service) requires taking samples throughout the year (impact of winter floods on the hydro-sedimentology and on the biological cycle of zooplankton species). SOMLIT is based on a coherent network of measurement points (in number and location) to sample neritic and estuarine waters. Ten times a year, samples are taken at 4 stations at a set point during a tidal cycle under comparable tidal conditions (neap tide). Samples were taken four times, at intervals of about 2 to 3 hours: 1 at high water, 2 mid-tide, 1 at low water, and at two levels: 1 m below the surface and 1 m above the seabed. The zone covered by the cruise was the Gironde estuary, more precisely Grave-Bec d'Ambes Point. The cruise dates were: 9-11/03, 4-8/04,4-7/05, 7-10/06, 5-8/07, 30/08-2/09, 20-23/09, 18-21/10 and 15-18/11.
