Objective | This mainly involved retrieving an ATLAS buoy from the PIRATA programme and mooring three others, two of them at two new positions. The Gavotte site(10 deg S-10 deg W) was where the buoy was recovered and re-deployed; the other two sites (deployment only) were Rhythm (1 deg 40N-10 deg W) and Blues (1 deg 40S-10 deg W). During the leg along the 10 deg W meridian CTD stations (0-1000m) were performed at each degree of latitude from 1 deg 40N to 10 deg S. Continuous logging by the shipboard TSG was done throughout the cruise. In addition, to back up the PICOLO programme, three sea water samples were taken at a depth of 60m at three sites along the 10 deg W meridian (6 deg S, 0 deg N and 1 deg 40N) in order to analyze the chlorophyll and biomass. The related programmes are PIRATA, ECLAT and CLIVAR. This is the list of participants (name, institution and nationality): - Jacques Servain (IRD, Brest, France) - Jacques Grelet (IRD, Abidjan, Ivory Coast) - Rick Miller (NOAA/PMEL, Seattle, USA) - Ryan Leslie (NOAA/PMEL, Seattle, USA) - Marie-Paule Verneuil (IRD, Paris, France) - Abdouraman Konare (University of Abidjan, IC). Comments on the cruise's progression: The cruise went normally, except for overheating of RV Antéa's engines whose cause is still unknown for now (18 Nov 99). |
