Objective Physical-chemical characterization of the continental shelf o French Guyana: preparing for the CHICO (physics and coastal chemistry in Guyana) programme in PNOC-Guyane. For this purpose, the main objectives of this pre-cruise were to test the feasibility of the CHICO operations planned (hydrology-tracer stations, measuring currents, chemical analyses, quantifying suspended matter, coupling with satellite observations), test the sampling strategy (spatial discretization, taking account of the tide), fine-tune the analytical systems and train the team taking part in the work at sea (particularly for dealing with physical measurements). The operations should provide an initial description of the physical-chemical parameters, from surface to bottom, on the eastern half of the French Guyana continental shelf. This falls under the National coastal oceanography programme (PNOC-Guyana site) and the IRD's ELISA coastal ecosystems influenced by the Amazon programme.
