Objectif

L'objectif premier de l'opération PROSOPE (PROductivité des Systèmes Océaniques PElagiques) est l'étude de l'influences des différentes ressources nutritives (azote et phosphore en particulier) sur la fertilité océanique. Cette opération se plaçait donc dans le contexte, au niveau international, du programme JGOFS (IGBP) et, au niveau national, du programme PROOF (PROcessus Océaniques et Flux) de l'INSU.

Au delà de cet objectif, l'équipe PROSOPE s'était assignée trois autres objectifs plus exploratoires, pouvant déboucher sur de nouveaux axes de recherche en biogéochimie marine :

  • Interpréter les données de couleur de l'océan, notamment en vue d'une meilleure calibration des capteurs couleurs satellisés.
  • Apprécier l'importance des phénomènes à l'échelle journalière.
  • Initier des études visant à établir d'éventuelles connexions entre biodiversité marine et cycles biogéochimiques.

La zone d'étude est la zone d'upwelling au large du Maroc (31 deg N / 10 deg W) et la Méditerranée (mer d'Alboran, bassin occidental, mer Ionienne, mer Tyrrhénienne, mer Ligurienne).
