Objective The HOPE 99 cruise (hydrothermalism of the ocean, physiology and ecology) took place on the Eastern Pacific ridge, mainly on over segment 13°N and on seamounts not on the axis, as well as secondarily on a few sites at 9°50'N. The cruise had two parts, the first on ecology and population genetics and the second on physiology. In the first part, 12 dives were made with Nautile, with a sampling strategy based on aspects of population distribution, dynamics and genetics. Based on an EM12D echosounder survey of the zone, the navigation and elements for each dive were analyzed using the new ADELIE tools. Supplementing this were 12 night-time hauls with the deepwater RMT 1+8 net, which collected bathypelagic fauna and juveniles and source-type particle traps which were positioned at the start of leg 1.
