| Objective | Studying the architecture very large dunes (amplitude exceeding 10m) located between the two lanes of the traffic separation scheme between the English Channel and North Sea. The Ridens1 showed that the 3.5 kHz sediment sounder could penetrate this sedimentary body in spite of the size of the sediments composing it which were assumed to be coarse. The objective of this mission, which followed the period of strong climate instability in autumn 1998, was to go back over the profiles made in 1996 in order to see the modifications brought on by the storms and to survey some profiles in the English zone. We have bathymetric surveys for these profiles were were done with a 1 year frequency. The related project is the URM marine research unit number 17 (Universities of Lille and Bordeaux + Ifremer, Brest). |
