Objectif Étude géophysique (bathymétrie, Gravimétrie, Magnétisme, sismique, réflexion multitrace) et géologique (dragages) de la partie nord du plateau de Kerguelen (Océan Indien). Reconnaissance de sites de forage ODP (leg 183). Le plateau sous marin de Kerguelen constitue encore aujourd'hui une énigme des lors que l'on cherche à comprendre son origine et à expliquer son mode de formation. Pour tenter de répondre à ces questions de nouveaux forages océaniques profonds seront réalisés sur le plateau de Kerguelen afin 1998 début 1999.
