Objective In order to obtain series of a century or several centuries for paleotemperature measurements, the Paléofidji cruise's objective was to take core samples several meters long in coral colonies. These paleotemperature measurements will provide a summary of climate variability in the Western Pacific by using data from New Caledonia as well. The related programmes are PALÉOCÉAN at ORSTOM (led by Jacques RECY) of the ORSTOM RU n1: climate variability and regional impacts; PNEDC: National climate study programme (INSU); and the International ARTS (Annual Records of Tropical System).
