Objective The objective of the PICO cruise was to study the ecosystem associated with hydrothermal vents in the Azores triple junction zone on the Mid Atlantic Ridge. Its main aim was to retrieve the logging and experimental devices placed on active sites during the MARVEL and FLORES cruises in 1997. Another aim of the PICO cruise was to take additional samples of fluids, rocks and organisms in the Rainbow and Lucky Strike hydrothermal fields.
