Objective

The AGUADOMAR cruise fell under the PNRN (National natural hazards programme) framework and was devoted to studying seismic and volcanic hazards in the Lesser Antilles Arc between Antigua to the north and Sainte Lucie to the south. The main objectives were both to determine the mechanisms of recent deformation of the crust by identifying all the active faults which could produce strong quakes and to study the mechanisms of destabilization by volcanoes by mapping the extension of major destabilization structures studied on land as well as the associated avalanches of debris. The cruise also tried to determine whether there is a link between tectonic activity and volcanic activity.
