Objective | ZAIANGO project: IFREMER framework agreement Nbs 98/1212932 & 98/1212934 to conduct a research programme offshore of Angola, Zaire and the Congo (confidentiality period of 10 years). The ZAIANGO 1 and 2 cruises were the first done in the ELF-IFREMER ZAIANGO collaborative research programme. They aimed to complement results from the GUINESS cruises. The 4 main themes were: 1) Establishing a turbidic deposit model for meandering systems like that of the Zaire River. 2) Studying the geodynamic context and the Congo-Angola margin structure. 3) Characterizing gas hydrate zones and studying their distribution. 4) Assessing slope instability hazards in areas where ELF has a license and more broadly on this type of margin. ZAIANGO 1's main objective was to perform a regional bathymetric and sonar survey, high speed seismic profiles and core sampling. |
