Objective Two cruises were performed concurrently: MOOGLI1 with P. Raimbault and FETCH with L. Eymard and H. Dupuis. The MOOGLI operation (modelling and observation of the Gulf of Lion) from 3 to 20 March had the general objective of studying seasonal trends in the structure and functioning of the Gulf of Lion ecosystem (North-western Mediterranean). This coastal region is physical governed by a powerful hydrodynamic structure and is subjected to telluric and anthropogenic inputs from the Rhone River. The aim is to draw up a yearly meso-scale budget for carbon and biogenic elements. This falls under the national coastal oceanography programme, or PNOC. The FETCH (French acronym for flux, sea state and remote sensing under variable fetch conditions) cruise was supported by the INSU's PATOM and PNTS programmes and MTPII/MATER, and under the general responsibility of Danièle Hauser from CETP. The FETCH cruise concerns the physical study of mesoscale ocean/atmosphere interactions.
