Objective The main objectif of the MARVEL cruise was to perform dives with Nautile on 4 hydrothermal sites located to the south of the Azores on the Atlantic ridge. The four targets are located at variable depths along the ridge: Rainbow site (2,400 m), Famous zone (2,600m), Lucky Strike zone (1,700m), Menez Gwen zone (800m). Two research subjects were addressed: 1) the influence of depth and related factors on the biology of populations and organisms, and 2) the population dynamics over time and space on a slow ridge (population dynamics and mechanisms of dispersal and colonization).
