Objective | This SELECT 11 cruise follows on from five cruises aboard RV GWEN-DREZ with the objective of perfecting a device which could spare juvenile fish caught by a bottom trawl. These cruises enabled the efficiency of the grid to be measured in terms of protecting juvenile individuals for each of the main species in question (angler, megrim, hake and rays). The outcome was a selective "kit" whose aim is to be usable aboard any professional fishing boat. However, the results were obtained by comparing the contents of two superimposed bunts, based on mechanical sorting. For technical reasons, we were not able to observe the behaviour of fish confronted with the "grid" obstacle. This falls under the Fisheries Programme (Brittany regional council - State-region plan contract). |
