Objective

Collecting the maximum amount of information about the factors regulating and controlling populations of Dinophysis, the dinoflagellate responsible for diarrhoeic food-poisoning in consumers of shellfish in summer. This alga cannot be cultivated in the laboratory and requires experiments at sea. Populations are generally dependent on the plumes of large rivers; they are confined more in thin layers at the pycnocline level. The purpose was to determine the distribution of algae on the continental shelf and in typical vertical fluxes on which standard hydrobiological analyses were performed.
