Objectif

Le projet ETAMBOT (Etude du Transport Atlantique Méridien dans le Bassin Ouest Equatorial), volet Hydrologie/Traceurs géochimiques du programme international WOCE, étudie la circulation dans le bassin ouest de l'Atlantique Equatorial et prend en compte les fortes variations saisonnières connues en surface et suspectées en profondeur.

Les objectifs principaux sont :

  • Étude de la circulation des masses d'eau en s'appuyant sur la distribution de traceurs géochimiques,
  • Évaluation des flux méridiens de masse et de température dans le bassin Ouest,
  • Étude de la circulation locale et de ses interactions avec la circulation thermohaline à grande échelle - l'accent est particulièrement mis sur l'étude du système de courant CNB/CG (Ct Nord Brésilien/Ct Guyane) et de la rétroflexion du CNB,
  • Étude de l'absorption de CO2 au sein de l'océan.
