Objective

The objective of these sea trials is to obtain real-time acoustic imaging of the seafloor, by using the synthetic antenna technique(MAST2 programme, SAMI project). The experimental prototype developed is a towfish which is towed subsurface (submersion <= 150m) at a speed of about 3 knots. The SAMI project is able to draw up maps of the seabed containing topographic elements or reliefs. To obtain these results, the research scientists use stereoscopic vision by employing two sonars in parallel. By associating the two images, it is possible to calculate the elevation or altitude for each point in the image.
