Objective | The CAROLS 2009 cruise followed on from the Gogasmos cruise aboard RV Antéa which took place in the south-eastern Bay of Biscay in order to study the surface layer. This was a dual approach: both to provide ground truthing (salinity, temperature, wind) for airborne L-band radiometry measurements (CAROLS airborne radiometer), in order to validate the algorithms used to invert the future SMOS satellite measurements for which this will be a validation region and the shore to offshore exchanges which seem particularly important in and around the Landes plateau area. The CAROLS - CDM 2009 mission aimed to recover a glider, a Marisonde drifting buoy and the salinity/temperature drifting buoys deployed during the Gogasmos and CAROLS 2008 cruises and to repeat the CTD legs performed during CAROLS 2008 and Gogasmos along 45°34'N and 44°N. |
