Objective The objective of the MOOSE0 operations in the Ligurian Sea was to retrieve and redeploy the DYFAMED mooring line which has existed since 1988. This line is equipped with two particle traps (PPS5 at 200 and 1,000 m), and now has stand alone sensors for physical CTD measurements (from 170 to 2,000 m) thanks to European funding (FP7 Eurosites). The line will be recovered in June 2010 during the next MOOSE missions. Using measurements taken on the traps, we will be able to estimate the budget of major biogeochemical vluses exported in the water column (C, N, Si, Al and Fe). Based on new physical measurements taken continuously, we will also be able to observe short and medium term trends for the physical structure of the water column (stratification, mixing, winter convection) affecting particle fluxes. The dates at sea in 2009 were: from 6 to 7 June (retrieval of traps) - from 30 July to 3 August (30/07-02/08 preparation on shore at Seyne/Mer and deployment on 3 August). This falls under the MOOSE project (underway)/EUROSITES.
