Objectif

La campagne SAMBA s'inscrit dans le programme SAMBA (Sub Antarctic Motion in the Brazil Basin), dont l'objectif est d'obtenir, à l'aide de flotteurs dérivants de subsurface, une description des mouvements de l'eau antarctique intermédiaire vers 800 m de profondeur, lors de son cheminement global vers le nord, dans le bassin du Brésil. A partir des trajectoires obtenues avec 100 flotteurs sur une durée de 5 ans, on estimera avec une erreur de quelques mm/s la circulation générale (moyenne dans le temps et dans l'espace) et absolue de l'eau antarctique intermédiaire. Les courants moyens obtenus dans des boites de 2x5 (latxlong) serviront de référence pour une inversion des données hydrologiques recueillies lors des grandes sections du WHP, afin d'obtenir la circulation générale 3D dans le bassin du Brésil.
