Objective The ZONECO (New Caledonian economic zone) programme, co-financed by the New Caledonian territory and provinces authorities, the French State and the Ifremer, Orstom and UFP research bodies, aims to explore and assess living and mineral marine resources in the Exclusive Economic Zone of New Caledonia. The ZONECO2 cruise is the second operation in the programme's tactical phase, consisting of the morphobathymetric and geophysical coverage of selected areas within the EEZ. The ZONECO2 cruise comprised a 20-day leg at sea and surveyed the Loyalty Ridge and its extension, the eastern margin of the Loyalty Ridge and inter-reef zones. A 3-year framework agreement was signed for the programme in 1994 and the data will be confidential until 1996.
