Objective This is a Public Service cruise conducted in the framework of the French programme to explore, map and inventory economic zones (ZE-France). ZONECO1 addresses the study of the EZ of New Caledonia, which is divided into several zones of interest. ZONECO1 covers one of the 3 zones given priority. The main objective is economic: it involves listing the seamounts in this areas which have proved to be an abundant source of commercial species of fish. A 3-year framework agreement was signed for the ZONECO programme by the partners: IFREMER, ORSTOM, Univ. Franc. du Pacifique, Territory of New Caledonia, the North and South Provinces and the Loyalty Islands. Therefore, the data will remain confidential until 1996.
