Objective The Eumeli operation aims to study, in the North Tropical Atlantic, fluxes of particles at each step of their voyage, from the time they are formed until they are finally buried in the sediment. Eumeli is part of the international JGOFS programme, aiming to acquire the same knowledge on the scale of the World Ocean, focusing on carbon transfer. Eumeli 5 is the last of a series of five ocean research cruises (1989-1992), with a long-term mooring of instrumented lines and a satellite-based approach, using archived images from the CZCS sensor. Along with recording from these lines, basic parameters describing the physical, chemical and biological structure of the three sites were measured.
