Objective | DORMASIS was a methodological, technical and scientific cruise. The objective was to explore whether, in the area around the crest of the mid-Atlantic ridge, there are seismic interfaces in the crust and at the crust-mantle transition. Nine days were spent in the zone. The seismic source was made up of the new GI (generator-injector) air guns recently purchased by Ifremer and was deployed, over most of the survey, following the single-bubble principle, aiming to focus the available energy on low frequencies (10-30 Hz). The total volume of the source was 17 litres (1,020 in3). Using the 96-channel streamer and a shot interval of approximately 50 metres, with ship's speed of 5 knots, provided 24-fold multiple coverage. |
