Objective | To clarify the rifting system in the North Fiji Basin, marine geological, geophysical, geochemical and biological surveys were carried out aboard the R/V YOKOSUKA during January 10th and February 6th, 1991. The cruise, named "YOKOSUKA 90", was the 6th leg in the STARMER program (1987-1992) for the study of the rift systems in the South Pacific back-arc basins, jointly cooperated by Japan, France and the South Pacific Countries (SOPAC). This program includes previous cruises of KAIYO 87, KAIYO 88, KAIYO 89 and the two dive cruises STARMER I and STARMER II with the French NAUTILE submersible (on board the R/V NADIR in 1989).This cruise targetted on the surveys in the Coriolis throughs, the back arc basins of Vanuatu Island Arcs and the northwestern extension of a 16deg40'S triple junction in the North Fiji Basin. |
