| Objective | By studying the distribution of megafauna at the surface, and more particularly the cetaceans which are the main elements, we are aiming to appraise a qualitative measurement of marine secondary production. Indeed, previous missions showed that cetaceans are spatial-temporal indicators of highly productive zones. Piggyback transits thus enable us to both map the presence of these animals in the micro-regions we sail through and correlate these observations with the logs of physical-chemical and biotic conditions encountered (surface temperature, salinity, underlying biomass, etc.). By multiplying transits, we will be able to statistically compare our data in order to analyse various spatial (micro-regions) and temporal components. |
