Objectif Etude du flux de particules à chacune des étapes de leur voyage depuis leur formation jusqu'à leur éventuel enfouissement, en donnant priorité à l'étude de la couche euphotique. EUMELI 3 présente une approche satellitaire et un mouillage à long terme de lignes instrumentées. La télédétection a d'abord aidé au choix des sites mais les études ont surtout été conduites pour que la télédétection permette : 1) de relier les teneurs en pigments chlorophylliens au flux de carbone ; 2) d'associer au cycle du matériel organique particulaire et du gaz carbonique, le cycle d'autres éléments. Le but ultime d'EUMELI, grâce à l'étude de ces trois cas d'école (EUtrophie, MEsotrophie, oLIgotrophie), est d'obtenir un schéma de fonctionnement doublé d'un outil de prédiction adapté aux données des futurs satellites.
