Objective	Geoscience cruise using the Nautile submersible to: 1) determine the extent of tectonic erosion over time and space; 2) progress in identifying seismogenic and tsunamigenic processes; 3) identify the mechanisms associated with fragmentation of a tectonic plate; 4) understand the tectonic evolution of the Andean margin in Peru on various time scales; 5) understand the nature and role of major fluid movements within the margin by observing surface signs (thermal and chemical anomalies, formation of oasis of life).

Summary of measurements

-36 dives made by NAUTILE (17 during leg 1 and 19 during leg 2).
-4 dives on the oceanic accretion zone of Mendana.
-2 dives on the inner trench wall in the Mendana zone.
-2 dives in the Chimbote zone (inner wall).
-3 dives in the Chiclayo canyon.
-25 dives in the Paita zone (6 in the trench and subduction front, 3 on the boundary between upper and lower and 16 on the major scarp on the middle slope).
-800 Kg of samples were collected, broken down as: 203 Kg of rocks and sediments, 32 of fluids including 21 titanium syringes and 11 PVC ('German barrel¿) bottles, 39 Kg of clams and Serpula tube worms.
-2 dives were devoted to taking heat flux measurements, 12 measurements were successful.
-145 VHS and 42 BETACAM video tapes were recorded.
