Objective Studying biogeochemical processes and fluxes of matter at the water-sediment interface at great depths. The cruise should enable a series of integrated actions to be performed, to determine the main components of the benthic ecosystem, spatial-temporal variations in population, and to highlight the biogeochemical processes related to the hydrodynamic and trophic conditions in the environment. EUMELI 2 is an element in the overall EUMELI operation which comprises a multiannual cycle of research cruises on permanent zones in the tropical ocean off Mauritania. EUMELI2 had two legs, leg 1 directed by Patrick Raimbault and leg 2 by Myriam Sibuet.
