| Objective | The ORIENTE cruise is the logical follow up to the SEACARIB II cruise made by RV Jean Charcot. It aims to perform imaging of the surface deformations related to a major strike-slip fault, by using the acoustic towfish system (SAR) and seismic profiles (light-weight 6-channel seismic system). The observed feature corresponds to the boundary between the North Caribbean plate (left-lateral strike-slip boundary between the Caribbean and North American plates). The SAR¿s scale of observation is highly detailed and can be directly compared to field observations collected onshore on neighbouring islands. It also provides good comparison with analog models (sand, silicon) of strike-slip deformation. |
