Objective The FROMVAR project (collaboration between LPO/LEMAR/AD2M) conducts targeted studies of the Ushant tidal front. The specific objective of the FROMVAR 2009 cruise was to perform the biological equivalent of the physics studies carried out during the 2007 and 2008 cruises (Le Boyer et al, CSR 2009). Measurements of the pelagic ecosystem's size structuring were taken using optical (laser granulometer, LOPC) and acoustic (TAPS) instruments and sampling (200µm WP2 plankton net). Nutrient samples were taken, as well as measurements of the micro-scale turbulence responsible for nutrient enrichment and mixing of water masses. High resolution hydrological measurement sections were made using an undulating towfish. During the third leg, a fluorescent dye was injected into the water mass and its dispersion was monitored. This is part of the FROMVAR project (supported by INSU/LEFE/IDAO).
