Objective | Improving selectivity of bottom trawls in mixed Nephrops/hake fisheries in the Bay of Biscay. In the framework of reducing discards in the mixed Nephrops/hake fishery, the cruise's objective was to test the influence of a new assembly of a selective Nephrops grid associated with a square mesh panel for hake. Indeed, the previous assembly developed led to premature wear and tear when trawling on rough bottoms and it was not easy to handle on board. The aim is to obtain a selective device whose results are reproducible, at a low cost and easy to deploy, to enable its transfer to the professional fishers in question. To this end, the twin-rig trawl technique was used to obtain qualitative and quantitative comparisons of catches between the select trawl and the reference trawl. The interest of this method is to obtain comparative data for each haul. This was part of the TECOS project. |
