Objective	Estimation of pelagic fish abundance in coastal waters of southern Europe using echo integration. Mapping of the area of distribution. CUFES continuous underway recording to estimate egg abundance. Calibration between continuous egg recording and conventional Pairovet sampling at stations. Estimation of size-fractioned plankton biomass (CHN method). Studying oceanographic and meteorological conditions and how they are related to distribution and abundance of adult pelagic fish and eggs. Hydrology: Characterizing the thermohaline properties of continental shelf waters. Measuring vertical profiles of temperature, salinity and fluorescence and acquiring surface data (thermosalinometry, fluorescence and meteorology). Plankton: Determining taxonomic diversity and biomass distribution patterns in different size classes of plankton (phytoplankton and zooplankton) in the study area. Mapping the abundance of predators.

Summary of measurements

-Acoustics: Acoustic sampling will be done in daytime over a sampling grid with legs 8 nautical miles apart (93 transects, approximately 2,100 nautical miles, 1,000 on legs).
-Trawls: A pelagic trawl and a GOV-type semi-pelagic trawl will be used (62 hauls).
-Hydrology and plankton: Stations will be located along acoustic transects during the night (214 vertical profiles of salinity, temperature and fluorescence, along 19 transects).
-Continuous recording of eggs: Using this pump, horizontal distribution of eggs was obtained by the CUFES (Continuous Underway Fish Egg Sampler).
