Objective The main objectives of the SOMIRMAS cruise were to: 1) understand the evolution of the Mascarene and western Somalian basins, particularly by accurately locating the fossil ridges which exist in both basins. 2) understand what occurs at the boundary of these two basins, at the Amirante Trench area. 3) study the nature and possible origin of the Mascarene Islands arc, based on the results of the geological and geophysical data collected.
