Objective | During RV Marion Dufresne's trip in transit from Marseille to the Southern Lands, technological trials and coring operations were conducted on the leg from Marseille-Cyprus in order to improve the functioning of the a heavy (5 tonnes), long and large-diameter Küllenberg-type corer and a stationary piston corer being perfected in development by the TAAF. Another goal was to check the functioning of the oceanographic winch following the breakdown occurring in March-April which led to the PROMETE 1 mission being shortened. The choice of coring sites met the objectives of PROMETE which is devoted to the paleo-volcanic history of the Mediterranean, the evolution of ocean circulation conditions in the past and magnetic instabilities. |
