Objective Studying the morphology and petrography of underwater volcanoes, as well as the existing ichthyological and benthic fauna. This was done in order to characterise the larvae of various volcanic edifices in the south of the New Hebrides arc, to observe the colonisation by coral on recent volcanic substrates and to compare the benthic fauna on either side of the subduction trench.
