Objective One of the objectives of the INSU's FPO (ocean particulate fluxes) programme involving various partners, including Ifremer, is to assess particulate fluxes on the scale of the globe, from surface ocean layers to their final burial in sediments. The EUMELI programme (one of the FPO components) aims to study three geographical zones on the scale of the North-East Atlantic's tropical basin: 1) the zone of high productivity linked to the Mauritanian upwelling (eutrophic zone); 2) an ocean zone: the Cape Verde abyssal plain with an oligotrophic regime; 3) an intermediate zone: the terrace of Cape Verde with a mesotrophic regime.
