Objective Studying the physical-chemical evolution of a Mediterranean water lens, or meddy, in the nearby Atlantic. These anticyclonic eddies circulating from East to West at depths around 1000m do not mix much with Atlantic waters and are located thanks to their high temperatures and salinity. This relatively isolated environment makes it possible to study changes in chemical characteristics depending on vertical inputs of matter and on time (distance from the source). The MEDATLANTE 1 cruise made it possible to characterise Mediterranean waters near Gibraltar and study a young meddy salt lens close to its source point of Cape St Vincent.
