| Objective | Study present and recent Quaternary environments on the deep part of the Brazilian margin, in a sector subjected to the action of deep circulation, i.e., the sector located to the north of the Rio-Grande Rise; a sector crossed by currents related to Antarctic and Arctic bottom water. Objectives pursued during BYBLOS: 1) Studying paleohydrological evolution; reference to present having been established based on samples of water, plankton and surface sediments; 2) Studying the impact of deep currents on the sedimentation of the continental rise and the abyssal plain: model, facies and sequences of deposits, geometry of contourite accumulations, interaction of gravity processes and processes linked to this circulation. |
