Objective	Participation in assessing fisheries resources of Western Europe. EVHOE 871 is part of a series of schedule trawling survey cruises. The main aim during EVHOE 871 was to perfect a sampling strategy (area prospected, number - stratification - location of stations, methods for recording and processing data, evaluating results). Additional operations to take biological material samples made it possible to take full advantage of the cruise.

Summary of measurements	-132 trawl hauls of a standard 30-minute duration performed on seabeds between 15 m and 500 m; sorting, weighing and measuring species; hard tissue specimens taken (otoliths, scales, fin rays) to determine age. -Various biological examinations (stomach content of hake, parasitology of mackerel, selachian jaws, and size-weight ratios for blue whiting). -Sampling of batches of hake, blue whiting, horse mackerel and dab for titration of radioelements (SCPRI). -Samples of batches of about fifty species to complement the electrophoretic catalogue being created.
