Objectif Etude de l'évolution des sédiments et des faunes benthiques en fonction de la bathymétrie, de la topographie sous-marine et de l'éloignement des côtes. BIOGEOCAL, campagne mixte, géologique et biologique, prolonge et complète la campagne BIOCAL 85. Trois secteurs ont été étudiés (tranche bathymétrique 300 à 3200 mètres) : 1) les marges de la Nouvelle Calédonie et de la ride de Norfolk (sur les emplacements des 4 "boites" Seabeam cartographiées en 1985) ; 2) le seuil entre Ouvéa et Lifou ; 3) Le transect Thio-Lifou.
