Objective	Using a multidisciplinary approach to establish the assessment of how the pelagic system in the Gulf of Lion functions (an outstanding model of a fast-transit, tideless sea), at each of the four main hydrological seasons. PELAGOLION 2 is the second of a series of cruises. This is part of the PELAGOLION project (programme falling under the ECOMARGE programme).

Summary of measurements

-Profiles from bottom/surface (Guideline CTD).
-Vertical multi-parameter profiles (made using pump and submerged sensors): temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, in vivo fluorescence, turbidity measurements.
-Optical profiles (LI-COR underwater spherical quantum sensor).
-Samples taken with NISKIN bottle between 200 m and the surface for various chemical and biological analyses.
-Vertical hauls with triple WP2 net between 200 m and the surface to determine species, establish dry weight and CHN analyses.
-Horizontal hauls at surface with a net for mesoplankton.
-Vertical multi-parameter profiles down to 40 m.
-Large water samples (60 litres) were taken at 4 immersions in the euphotic layer.
-Zooplankton metabolism.
-100 litres of water were sampled in different water masses detected using CTD probe; 25 horizontal multi-parameter profiles made.
