Objective Studying, by underwater seismological stations, a geographical area separating two zones of large deposits accompanying strong quakes (coupling zone between two converging plates: the Pacific plate and the Australian plate). Specifying the crustal structure of the back-arc extension zone (Vanuatu). The fact that digital OBSs were used for the first time in seismology during EVA XIII added technological interest to the scientific interest of this cruise.
