Objective	Studying CO2 and water mass circulation in the west of the Indian Ocean (INDIGO-headed by A. POISSON) and studying the dynamics of surface layers of the Indian Ocean subjected to seasonal variations in the wind regime (SINODE/PNEDC/TOGA/CINCWIO headed by M. FIEUX). In the framework of the INDIGO programme: Determining the spatial distribution of biogeochemical species linked to the carbon cycle; Collecting seawater samples in order to measure concentrations of several geochemical tracers. In the framework of the SINODE programme: studying the dynamics of 1) surface layers; 2) boundary currents in the western Indian Ocean mainly focusing on variations in various branches and extensions of the South Equatorial current.

Summary of measurements

-INDIGO programme: 18 hydrology stations at depths between 4,000 and 4,500 m.
-At each station: 3 descents of a Neil Brown CTD with a rosette of twelve 12L bottles, 3 arrays of six 30L bottles (for filtering).
-For 7 stations: 3 arrays of eight 100L bottles and six 30L bottles.
-SINODE programme: Recovery of a pressure sensor implanted at Farquhar in April 1985 and a mooring with a Doppler acoustic profiler and an Aanderaa current meter.
-Continuous measurement of surface current (deduced from navigation).
-Releasing 5 ARGOS drifting buoys.
-48 CTD to bottom, casting of 105 XBT probes.
-Measurements of surface temperature and salinity along ship¿s track.
-Continuous bathymetry.
-Continuous meteorology observations (every hour).
