Objective The ESOPE (Ocean Sediment Study by PEnetration) cruise is part of the Subseabed program (defined above). Its main objective was the knowledge of the first tens of meters of unconsolidated sediments characterizing the two following sites: Abyssal plain east of the Great Meteorite; Southern Nares Abyssal Plain to determine their ability to contain radioactivity from the waste that may be buried there.
