Objective The main objective of EPI IV was the launching of five measurement modules (measurements of organic inputs on the bottom, measurements of the colonisation rate of virgin sediments, measurements of currents and nephelometry, observations of sediment erosion, etc.). EPI IV is part of a series of cruises devoted to the study of the biological, sedimentological and physical mechanisms involved in the transfer of materials and energy in the deep environment; the final objective of the project is to model the mechanisms involved in exchanges at the water-sediment interface.
