Objective | Studying the degradation of organic matter in surface sediments located opposite the mouth of the Rhone River on the continental shelf. Approach using in situ and laboratory measurements. Investigating the link with the productivity of the river plume in the zone measured during the CHACCRA-Plume cruise. Documenting spatial distribution of organic carbon (OC), organic tracers (compound classes, lipid tracers, pigments, isotopes of carbon 13C and 14C and nitrogen 15N) in the area subject to the influence of Rhone inputs, on the continental shelf, and in the area of the Petit Rhone. Studying the benthic macrofauna present in the sediment of these zones using a video camera set up in the sediment in situ (SPI) and grab samples, and studying meiofauna through the live foraminifera in the sedimentary layers. Study of the recent depositing of particles on the sediment using short-lived radionuclides (7Be, 234Th, 228Th). The related projects are CHACCRA (ANR-VMC) and RIOMAR(EC2CO). |
