Objective | DOCONUG's scientific objective is to study the deep convection zone in the Gulf of Lion. The strategy is to deploy and maintain a new observation system implementing 3 deep water gliders (~1000m) which are guided in real-time by a system incorporating a numerical forecast model. The programme is based on collaborative work with the National Oceanographic Centre of Southampton (NOCS) (see http://www.soc.soton.ac.uk/JRD/PROC/people/das/convect.php). The measurements will be complemented by hydrological measurements taken down to the seabed. They will also fall under the CIESM initiative on long-term hydrological variability in the region and cooperation with the LOB/COM (Isabelle Taupier-Letage). The following dates were days at sea in 2008: from 25/01/2008 to 30/01/2008, from 26/02/2008 to 01/03/2008, from 28/03/2008 to 02/04/2008 and from 01/07/2003 to 05/07/2008. |
